South African Reality-based EMS Course (REMS)
Overview
A 4-day immersive, hands-on course where we expose you to The Sinai System of patient care and the associated wisdoms the instructors have learnt in their 21+ years of being paramedics in South Africa and / or Specialised Operations Medics.
Who should attend this Course?
- Are you involved in prehospital emergency care?
- Are you daunted by the thought of having to perform in the prehospital setting?
- Do you want to brush up on your pre-hospital trauma skills?
Then this course is for you!!
We cater to all levels of EMS providers, from First Responders to Emergency Consultants and Anaesthetist's. NO ONE will walk away from this course without having gained some exciting, cutting-edge knowledge and experience.
DURATION
4 days (9am - 5pm). Refreshments (Tea / Coffee / Water) are included.

LOCATION
Our course will be held in Sliema, Malta. Malta is a mediterranean Island in the European Union known for it's sunny weather, rich history and warm waters. For more Information on Malta, please visit their official tourism website www.visitmalta.com
HOW DO I GET THERE?
Malta has its own Airport (MLA) which is serviced by all common Airlines incl budget airlines such as RyanAir and EasyJet. Transfer time to the Hotel is about 15min and easily done via Taxi or Bolt / Uber for €20.
ACCOMMODATION & MEALS
Closer to the time we will publish a group booking rate with the Hotel and once your attendance is confirmed we'll provide you with a Point of Contact so you can make a booking should you choose to do so, this will be for your own account and arrangement directly.
Naturally you are welcome to source any other accommodation of your choosing.
Lunch and Dinner can be taken at a multitude of restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets within walking distance of the Classroom and is for your account directly.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Comfortable clothes and an open mind is all you need. If you would prefer, you are welcome to bring your own stethoscope.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
As this course is aimed at already qualified emergency care personnel (Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, EMTs etc), we do require you to have at least a state-recognised First Responder Qualification in your country e.g. FREC3, FPOS-I or similar
EXAMS & ASSESSMENTS
There are no examinations or assessments and delegates are allowed to absorb knowledge at their own pace and skill level

Topics & skills are covered in a progressive and innovative way born of real-world experience and include but are not limited to:
- Demystifying pre-hospital care
- Universal prehospital patient care approach (Sinai System)
- Scene management in non-permissive environments
- Catastrophic haemorrhage control (an old-new approach)
- Innovative spinal management
- Difficult airways (alternate positioning & cricothyrodotomy)
- Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI) (preparation, failure drills and when not to)
- Needle chest decompression made easy
- Novel splinting techniques
- Trauma resuscitation
